Buy The Best Cookware For Your Cook Top
Glass cook tops are a wonderful invention. Cleaning your cooking area has never been easier and quicker. However with this new invention also came some new ways and rules of use. Selecting the best cookware for a glass cook top will help make the most of this great invention. There are different types of glass cook tops and so always check with your manufactures instructions to be sure the cookware you purchase is approved for your specific type of cook top.
It was some time as early as the 1970’s that glass cooktops started appearing on the scene. Marketed as easy to clean sleek they didn’t catch on all that well. Probably due to price point and the fact that one does not often only replace the cook top. If your cook top was part of your oven then it meant buy a whole new oven and cook top. Even still other cook tops were coming on the scene as well. Smooth burner styles as well as new gas and induction were all choices for those looking for something different from the standard coil type electric models.
Those who did go the way of glass ceramic found it was not all pros and had some cons as well. As hard as glass ceramic is the cook tops were prone to scratching. One has to be careful not to slide pots and pans on the surface. They are prone to various stains, especially sugar stains that are allowed to burn and dry. Cookware is also a factor. Since the surface is so flat and smooth the cookware should also be flat and smooth so that good contact is made in order for heat to transfer efficiently. Cookware with a rim or ridges does not work well. Anything that creates a gap between the surface and the pan or pot will greatly reduce the efficiency of the cook top. Stainless steel or cast iron made cookware works best. Other materials may not even be compatible with glass ceramic and may melt or crack if they are not rated to take intense and quick temperature change. Some brands like Calphalon, Analon, Circulon, All-Clad, Cuisinart have cookware rated specifically for glass cooktops and are worth checking into. There is no one best type or brand but there are certainly ones that will not work well or work at all.
